* * * * EDIT: Anyone is welcome to highlight and copy this post into their own blog or an email to everyone you know. Some people [like me] skip links so her mug grabs attention. If you want the HTML code, just ask.

From GLAAD: This member of the U.S. House of Representatives spoke in the House chamber and stated that Mathew Shepard's murder was not a hate crime.

Here is her webmail form

Rep. Virginia Foxx MUST Resign!

Representative Virginia Foxx (R-NC) has dishonored herself, her party and the entire US House of Representatives. In order to try to score a political point, she claimed that "we know" that the Mathew Shepard murder was not a hate crime. She called it a "hoax." Moreover, she did so knowing full well that Judy Shepard – mother to a murdered son – was sitting in the gallery. Others have claimed that Foxx was ignorant and stupid. Surely Foxx is ignorant but that's not why she is the object of outrage.

The real issue is that Foxx simply didn't care and why should she? For roughly two hours, we listened to Republican after Republican spout lies and distortions about the hate crime bill and free fire zone" of hate. For roughly two hours we were subjected to disparagement by the agents of the agents of intolerance. Essentially, these "conservative" politicians are the paid employees of the Christian right in pursuit of their agenda of inequality. Take away the evangelical money and some of these people would find themselves putting chocolate on cherries for a living. GLBT people.

So no, it's not the stupidity of Ms. Foxx that is so egregious; it's the arrogance. Apparently a bunch of queers aren't important enough to Ms. Foxx for her to get her facts straight.

Foxx will probably do the political thing and apologize "if anyone was offended." This time, that's not even close to good enough. This isn't some bimbo in a beauty pageant. This is a US Congressional Representative making a statement on the floor of the US House of Representatives.

@hci... tell us how you really feel, hci.

you r using those words among friends who understand the context... but I'll grab a small teachable moment here if it is ok... The GSA students promote this approach.... as a response to bashing or semi-bashing language...

***"but my mom is a woman and when people use those words it sorta bothers me." That's the format our GSA promotes when they hear "Oh. that's so gay..." Or calling a random person a fag as an insult.

That's all...

@g.left... well look for the article in your local paper on line and respond. Send her email. Maybe GLAAD knows someone who can run against her. Donate.

Put this on yer blog. You are welcome to take it whole sale. I will email the HTML code to anyone who wants to be a copy cat for justice.

This lady is pretty pathetic, and probably won't last as a representative of her community. Not even the late Jerry Falwell would agree with her notions of what happened to Matt Shepherd, and he was picketed by the infamous Westboro Baptist Church for his condemnation of their nastiness at Shepherd's memorial service.

She, along with Sally Kern from Oklahoma rank among my favorite fools in Congress.

I think the gay community does blow it a little out of proportion. He WAS killed during a robbery. Also people have to remember that fact that the two criminals pretended to be gay helped debunk the "gay fear" defense.

I think to say Matt Shepard's murder was solely because of hate aganist homosexuals is false. It would be equivalent to saying that Dan White killed Harvey Milk simply because he was gay.
